“Paint what you see.” —Susanne Dotson
“Paint what is around you.” —Faith Ringgold
"Paint what hurts." —David Choe
My work is rooted in observation and place. After years of avoiding subjects that felt difficult: race, economics, and my childhood. I began working directly from my surroundings. Between 2023 and 2024, I started collecting printed paper goods and photographing special occasions on instant film, initially as a form of scrapbooking. That process became my practice.
I use ready-made materials from businesses and public spaces to explore consumer culture, memory, and value. Repurposing discarded or overlooked objects is both a conceptual choice and a practical one. I am using what already exists to make the work.
Drawn to vintage and forgotten items, I create studies that reflect my hometown of Columbus, Ohio. Through sustained observation and repetition, I building a body of work that poses questions rather than offer conclusions.
